Information we collect
Depending on how you use Memeoscopy, we may collect:
- Account information: your name, email address, and an internal account identifier when you create or use an account.
- Content you provide: memes, images, videos, comments, reports, feedback, and other content you choose to upload or submit.
- Search information: search text, filters, result identifiers and positions, which results were visible or selected, time spent on a result, and whether an action such as copy, share, save, or send completed.
- Product interaction: app opens, screens viewed, feature use, favorites, shares, sends, and related timestamps.
- App Store advertising attribution: when Memeoscopy is opened, Apple may tell us whether the install or redownload resulted from one of our App Store ads and provide campaign, ad-group, keyword, ad-assignment, placement, country or region, and conversion-type identifiers. We associate this record with a random install identifier and the pseudonymous device identifier so we can understand subsequent product use. We do not retain Apple's short-lived attribution token.
- Pseudonymous identifiers: a randomly generated device-level identifier stored in the Keychain, a session identifier, and—when signed in—a pseudonymous account identifier. These are not your Apple advertising identifier.
- Technical information: app version, build number, device type, operating-system version, performance information, and information needed to diagnose errors and secure the service.
How search analytics work
Our first-party search system stores the query and the meme IDs returned, displayed, selected, and used. This lets us measure both positive signals and unused displayed results so we can improve ranking. Our analytics provider receives product events and pseudonymous IDs, but our app intentionally removes raw search text, names, email addresses, Apple identifiers, and complete result lists from third-party analytics events and profiles.
The iMessage extension records interactions with Memeoscopy content only. It does not read or store your conversations, recipients, contacts, or messages.
How we use information
- Provide search, favorites, uploads, sharing, iMessage, account, moderation, and support features.
- Measure audience size, reliability, feature use, search quality, and whether a result led to a completed action.
- Measure whether our own App Store advertising campaigns lead to useful searches, completed meme actions, retention, or purchases.
- Detect abuse, enforce our terms, protect the service, and respond to support requests.
- Develop and improve Memeoscopy, including evaluating retrieval and ranking systems.
Service providers
We use service providers to operate Memeoscopy. They may process data only to provide their services to us, subject to their own terms and privacy commitments:
- Database and storage infrastructure for authentication, application data, media, and first-party event collection.
- Analytics infrastructure for pseudonymous product analytics. IP-based geolocation is disabled in the app configuration.
- Search and AI infrastructure to create search representations, rank results, and analyze content. A query may be sent to these providers when needed to answer a search.
- Apple services for App Store distribution, Sign in with Apple, and privacy-preserving attribution for our App Store advertising campaigns.
We do not sell your personal data. We do not combine Memeoscopy activity with third-party data for targeted advertising or advertising measurement, and we do not permit our analytics provider to use it for cross-app tracking.
Data retention and deletion
We retain information for as long as needed to provide the service, improve search, comply with law, resolve disputes, and protect users. Retention periods vary by data type. Aggregated or de-identified measurements may be retained longer.
You can delete your account in Memeoscopy under Settings → Advanced → Delete Account. This removes the account and associated application data handled by our deletion flow. To request access to or deletion of remaining pseudonymous analytics data, use the Feedback form in Memeoscopy; we may provide steps to locate the relevant identifier when needed. Some security, legal, backup, or de-identified records may be retained where permitted.
Your choices
You may use core browsing and search features without creating an account. You control whether to upload content or grant Photos access, and can revoke permissions in iOS Settings. Do not include personal or sensitive information in a search query unless it is necessary for your request.
Security and children
We use reasonable administrative and technical safeguards, but no service can guarantee absolute security. Memeoscopy is rated for users 16 and older and is not directed to children under 13.
Changes
We may update this policy as the product or legal requirements change. We will post the updated date on this page and provide additional notice when appropriate.
